Something interesting happened today. Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Reggie Fils-Aime just released a 57-second video detailing a new color skin model of the New 3DS XL. Seems strange that they would make such a big deal over a skin for a device. Could there be more than meets the eye? As Iwata used to say, “Let’s take a look.”
There you have it. A new Galaxy-style cover for the NEW 3DS XL for $199.99. The 3DS is still way overpriced in my opinion but that is another topic for another time.
It seems a bit odd doesn’t it? Nintendo knows that we are starving for news regarding their next-gen console code-named “NX.” They know that we are waiting to hear news regarding when we are going to HEAR news regarding NX. Why take the time to pull Reggie away from I’m sure his busy schedule as President and COO of Nintendo Of America to film a 57-second video about a 3DS skin? That’s what Bill Trinen is there for. So I got to thinking.
Maybe this is foreshadowing something. I read a comment somewhere that resonated with me and made a lot of sense. It is a possibility that Nintendo is on site shooting something else, but they decided to use the time to shoot a quick video to advertise the NEW 3DS XL Galaxy version. So what else could they be shooting? A possible Nintendo Direct perhaps? It’s possible. Now if they are recording a Nintendo Direct that does NOT mean that they are automatically recording the elusive NX reveal Direct we are all waiting for. It could at the very least mean that we will get a definitive announcement as to when we will see it. Again, that is IF a Nintendo Direct is even coming in the first place. However there is another piece to this.
Why the Galaxy theme out of the blue for the NEW 3DS XL? Could this be foreshadowing that a Super Mario Galaxy game is coming. Could Super Mario Galaxy be coming to the 3DS? Can the 3DS even handle Super Mario Galaxy? I don’t know.
Could this mean that HD remakes of Super Mario Galaxy 1 and/or 2 are coming to the Wii U this holiday season? The versions that already exist on the Wii U are only upscaled ports of the Wii versions still at a native 480p. Could Super Mario Galaxy 1 and/or 2 be getting the Twilight Princess HD treatment soon?
Now here is the 800-pound gorilla in the room that I’m sure you clicked on this article to read about.
Could this mean that in addition to an NX reveal it is shown that Super Mario Galaxy 3 is on it’s way? Well, there have been persistent rumors regarding as such. Could we see a split release on both the Wii U and NX such as with LOZ: Breath Of The Wild? Could Super Mario Galaxy 3 be a swan-song Wii U only title released this Holiday to keep Nintendo relevant? Could Super Mario Galaxy 3 be a ground-up NX launch title? It’s possible. Do you think it’s possible? Do you think it’s probable? Do you think it’s imminent? Leave your comments below!
