It’s a problem we all suffer from occasionally. Very few people are exempt. Regardless of any conversation or situation in social constructs, when events happen we very often let our emotions guide our decisions and our thought processes rather than standing back and looking at the entire picture objectively considering all factors and all available facts. Rather than stand firm on common sense and factual information we actually DO have, we let ourselves get carried away by any random wind of doctrine. Such is the case with this narrative that was created by Eurogamer regarding the Nintendo NX.
This blog may step on a lot of toes and hurt a lot of feelings but I’m starting to get irritated and I feel like there are things that need to be said at certain times to snap people back to reality.
Now I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about the Eurogamer narrative itself because everyone knows it by now. It’s already taken on a life of it’s own and has been accepted as 100% confirmed fact. It doesn’t matter that Eurogamer did this exact same thing back in 2009 when they “confirmed” that the new Nintendo portable would be using an nVidia Tegra processor….
In Theory: Nintendo DS2 vs. Sony PSP2
….and that was proven FALSE as the Nintendo 3DS would go on to use a PICA200 processor. Here are comments made by then Nintendo President and CEO the late Saturo Iwata about his decision to go with that hardware package.
Iwata: “I was personally involved in that specific decision making process. After receiving the proposal, I personally thought that it was the right choice because it had the right balance between power consumption and graphical capability. I don’t know if this method will be the best choice forever, but as of now, I have concluded that it’s a very well-balanced method.”

It doesn’t matter that NONE of the information of the Eurogamer narrative was new information. Not one word. All of it was based off of rumors months and even years old. The rumor of the NX console itself came in January of 2014 with the whole ‘Nintendo Fusion’ idea.
Even then the idea of a portable/home console hybrid existed. Two years ago people. TWO-YEARS and SIX-MONTHS.
It doesn’t matter that nVidia (as of the time of this post) has not announced ANY semi-custom chip design wins for game consoles at all.
It doesn’t matter that even though Nintendo insists that NX is a completely new gaming concept, the concept they (Eurogamer) implores is not new, revolutionary, or even successful. There have been tablets that can output gaming video to TVs for years, and it has never caught on. Affordability could have been a issue perhaps, but it is a huge gamble to hedge your bets on a technology or concept that has already been in mainstream consumerism and has not fared well.
It doesn’t matter that Nintendo has stated that the NX will have multiple devices (which came from Saturo Iwata himself.)
IWATA: Last year we also started a project to integrate the architecture for our future platforms.
, and operating systems and their build-in applications more portable, regardless of form factor or performance of each platform. They will also work to avoid software lineup shortages or software development delays which tend to happen just after the launch of new hardware.
Still, I am not sure if the form factor (the size and configuration of the hardware) will be integrated. In contrast, the
and we believe that we will be able to deliver tangible results in the future.
…….and the fact that the Wall Street Journal also stated that the NX will be multiple devices.

Lastly, it doesn’t seem to matter that there are no confirmed links to the sources that supposedly gave Eurogamer this information. Nintendo has confirmed nothing, nVidia has confirmed nothing, and no developer we know for certain has an NX dev-kit and is actively working on a title or titles (as Ubisoft suggests)……
Ubisoft Has “Surprises” Yet to be Announced for Nintendo NX
…..has confirmed ANYTHING one way or another. Nothing about architecture. Nothing about power-level. Nothing about concept. Nada. Zilch. Zero.
So despite ALL of this…..people have basically gone off the deep end when it comes to what their expectations are of the NX. In regards to the Eurogamer narrative, some have chosen to not believe any of this at all. Some have chosen to believe some of this, but not all of it. Some have chosen to believe all of it, and some have chosen to “wait and see.” Of course people also can have any combination of those examples or some that I haven’t thought about as well. The point is that people are all over the board about the NX and their seems to be more confusion now than their ever has been before. My question however is, why? That’s where I want to delve into the topic at hand.
Why are people allowing themselves to be held captive by RUMORS? Why are people even giving a second thought to a website that has been proven wrong just as much as they have been proven right? Why are people accepting that IS true and going on the defensive as to why this could work when some people have already said such things in the past would most assuredly fail? Why are people allowing a painfully obvious click-bait article to take the place of a mountain of evidence to the contrary? Why are people allowing themselves to become…..”Prisoners Of The Moment?”
This is not necessary. We do not know what the NX is. I don’t know, you don’t know, and Eurogamer doesn’t know. It could very well be exactly what Eurogamer says. I’m not the one to tell you that it can’t be. I think it hurts your credibility when you say that it CANNOT be true just as much as it just to say that it is 100% true simply because they say so. Especially considering Nintendo’s past history. It definitely is possible, if not probable. The NX could be multiple devices also running on a new OS similar to Windows or Android to where not only can you play NX games on dedicated Nintendo hardware, but also on other devices as well. If you really go back and read carefully Iwata’s vision for the NX, and look at some of the patents filed, it sounds a lot like that. Or the NX could simply be a home console and a separate portable console that “fuse” together to make a super console (remember Nintendo FUSION.) What’s funny is that all of the above could be true, literally. You know what I always say. “When it comes to Nintendo the only thing for sure is that nothing’s for sure.”
The people that DO know exactly what the NX is have glued their mouths shut. 3rd-party studios we know that have NX dev-kits as I mentioned before have gone out of their way to talk about how successful they think the NX will be and how confident they are in it’s success, but will not say a peep about what it is despite being grilled by journalists.
So because of the this journalists (and wannabe journalists) fill in the blanks and make stories they WANT by taking existing information and making a narrative out of it. I call this tactic “click and cash.”
Nintendo’s name is in the news because the success of Poke’mon GO, and because of the announcement of the Mini NES. So Eurogamer saw an opportunity to capitalize on this. Even if what they said was 100% true, the timing of when they did this as suspect as it gets. Especially when you consider the fact that as I and many others have stated, ALL of of the information there is OLD.
Think about it folks. Nintendo has hid the NX almost as well as the Ark Of The Covenant has been hidden. Why in the world would Nintendo allow a leak of this magnitude to happen which basically tells us what the NX is, what the concept is, how powerful it will be, etc. At this point if the Eurogamer narrative is true all Nintendo has left to do is tell us about the games and price. Do you honestly think Nintendo has done this? Be real with yourself.
Stop letting any news about ANYTHING jerk you one direction or another. This goes for anything. Not just Nintendo. If someone that actually has a name, has a job title that can be verified, has a company that can be verified, has a work history that can be verified, and has connections to said topic that can be verified is telling you something, NOW you are cooking with gas. Anything else………flush it down the damned commode where it belongs.
